I Can Hear Wedding Bells

I’M ENGAGED!!

Fella asked me to be his forever and I said yes!

I’ve never been one of those girls who’s dreamt about their wedding since they were little. I always knew that I would eventually get married, and I have an idea about the style of dress I want (hats off to you Say Yes to the Dress), but when, where, and who to invite are still all unknown. Fall or Spring? DJ or band? Outside or inside? Chicken or Fish? I have not a clue.

I do feel like I have a bit of an upper hand than most because of my experience working as a wedding planner’s assistant (i.e. my best friend’s lackey), but I still don’t know where to start. We’re in no real rush to get married- I mean, we are buying a house and all. Plus, who doesn’t want to keep the title Fiancée as long as possible!? It sounds fancy as fuck!

So how did he ask…? I’m so glad you asked!

I have recently started my 74th health-kick since the start of the year: going to the gym 2-3 times a week, wearing my FitBit more often, tracking my caloric intake- you know, the usge. With that in mind, Fella had been craving the home-style meal served at a nearby eatery. He pitched me the plan of doing a fairly strenuous hike (part of the infamous Appalachian Trail) in the morning, then hitting up heaven-on-Earth-in-the-form-of-a-farm-house-restaurant for lunch. Sold!

So like the crazy people were are, we woke up at 6am on a Sunday (!) and hit the road. We got to the base of the mountain around 8am. It was cloudy and we spent the first part of the trek being rained on, but we welcomed the coolness of the drops as even the first half mile was spent walking fairly vertically. There was a lot of stopping due to my heart rate hovering around the 180-190 range and the need to hydrate since we were expelling sweat at a rather alarming rate, given we were legit hiking up a mountain and all.

The 2.4 mile hike turned into a 3.2 mile hike according to my FitBit, with the last .7 miles or so being a climb straight up the side of a cliff. Fun stuff! We made it to the ridge and climbed further to the tip-top of the mountain to get the best views possible.

Pretty, right!?

IMG_2839We re-hydrated, ate a snack, and cooled off before making our way off of the peak. Even on the ridge, the views were stunning so I directed Fella to pose for yet another picture. Just as I snapped the pic and slid my phone back into my pocket, he walked forward and said something to the effect of, ‘What do you think? You wanna spend forever with me?’ I’m not 100% certain because at first, I was confused, then I saw him getting down on one knee when I shouted, “Nu-uh! Are you serious!?”

He held up the little red box with the prettiest ring I’ve ever seen and asked, “Will you marry me?”

“Yes! Of course!!”

With tears in my eyes, I grabbed the box out of his hand to admire this token of love. At first, I didn’t want to put it on because I was sweaty and nasty and we still had to scale down a mountain, but my mind changed real quick. We had to get pictures anyhow, so why not just leave it on, which is exactly what I did.

The rest of the way down the mountain, I got to admire my ring and smile like an idiot. I couldn’t have been happier.

That was until we got to the restaurant completely famished from our 7.4 mile round-trip hike and were told the wait was an hour long! But once we were seated and feasting on fried chicken, roast beef and the fixin’s, I was back to being on cloud nine with the goofiest of smiles plastered upon my face.

GUYS… I’M MARRYING MY FELLA!

  1. Awwwww!!!! Congrats!!! What a sweet story to read on Monday morning!!! This is so exciting. Planning a wedding is so much fun! (I say this now but the minute I crashed on our honeymoon after the wedding- I slept for 16 hours straight and freaked my husband out!! LOL) I hope you are going to blog the experience leading up to it! 🙂

    • I think that will be the biggest struggle for me, actually. I have a huge extended family and feel like I need to invite them all, but we both want a small wedding. I’m sure everything will work out though. 🙂 And thank you!!

  3. Congratulations!! I am so happy for you! My vote is for a chic, intimate wedding. I’ve been married twice and had it each way. I much prefer the smaller wedding. Ill need an invite to the bachlorette party.
